Ensure a pipeline of talented educators
One of the biggest barriers to school quality and school expansion is a shortage of excellent school leaders and a shortage of teaching talent, especially in hard-to-fill subject areas. MMAC has and is supporting a number of organizations that are helping to address this gap.
MMAC is an original member of Schools That Can Milwaukee, staff holds a board seat and contributes to the mission of STCM (providing coaching and leadership development for its member and partner schools). STCM serves 43 district, charter and Choice schools, supporting 250 school leaders who educate 15,700 kids. STCM also helps to recruit talent and innovation to Milwaukee’s K-12 educational system working with public, private and charter schools. Highlights include:
MMAC staff serves on the board of Teach for America, helping to raise $4.2M annually to carry out its goal of providing non-traditional quality teachers for the city. MMAC has championed $1M in state funding each biennium. Currently, TFA has 130 corps members (first and second year teachers), 47% are members of color, and their students saw an average academic growth of 1.6 years during the course of their school year. The TFA impact also includes:
- Continue to support the development of talented educators and school leaders
- Continue to secure state funding for Teach For America (TFA) - a national teacher corps focused on raising student achievement and filling the teacher pipeline
