Presented by the Milwaukee World Trade Association's (MWTA) International Business Series

While the topic of economic espionage may sound like the plot of the latest James Bond film, for many companies, the ending is anything but happy, resulting in substantial damage.  Yet, many companies are not adequately protecting their assets from the most common threats, which include their own employees, criminals that target business travelers abroad, foreign visitors to the company and sophisticated internet criminals.  If you are a business owner, international business traveler, IT security manager, risk manager, corporate attorney, business development executive or operations manager, you should seriously consider joining us for this important program.  In addition to this fabulous program, you'll be joining the area's best network of international business leaders as we honor our past presidents and catch up on the latest business developments.

4:00-5:15 pm - Panel discussion with:

  • Byron Franz, FBI
  • Ann Hintz, Briggs & Stratton Corporation; and
  • Paul Riedl Jr., of RiverRun Computers

5:15-6:00 pm - Networking & Cocktails

6:00-7:30 pm - Dinner honoring the MWTA’s past presidents and featuring speaker Byron Franz, FBI

Byron Franz is a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and has worked national security investigations for over fifteen years. Prior to coming to the FBI's Milwaukee office, he spent ten years in Indianapolis, where he was a member of the FBI Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT) Team and lead the investigation of an Indiana man who was convicted of acting as an agent of the former Iraqi Intelligence Service under the regime of Saddam Hussein. Special Agent Franz currently serves as the Strategic Partnership Coordinator for the FBI's Milwaukee Division, where his job is to form partnerships with corporations and academia to better protect intellectual property and trade secrets. Special Agent Franz has a B.A. in International Relations and Russian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Paul T. Riedl, Jr. was a founder of River Run Computers, Inc. in 1993. Paul helped grow the company from $1 million to $6.5 million since then. River Run has been recognized as one of the MMAC’s Future 50 “Master Medal” companies three times. River Run has grown from 10 to 44 employees, including a highly skilled and certified technical team and engineering, sales, marketing and administrative staff. Paul’s working philosophy includes empowering the team by training them and helping them stay focused on taking care of the client. Paul is married to Julie, a teacher in the area, and has three children, ages 8 to 16 years old. He’s active in the Wisconsin Soccer community, fostering programs, and is involved in mentoring through Nativity Jesuit Middle School.
