China: A World of Business Opportunities
China’s $4.9 trillion economy is the second largest and fastest growing in the world. Many Milwaukee-area companies are making inroads into China and capturing a piece of this growing market, with strong demand in China for medical equipment, building materials, lumber and telecommunications products and components.

China has grown from Wisconsin’s 18th largest export destination a decade ago to the state's third-largest trading partner today. Exports to China have grown to $1.2 billion, an increase of more than 40 percent from only two years earlier. Wisconsin strongly supports fostering relationships with China, having led several recent trade missions to China, and opening a Wisconsin trade office in Shanghai in 2003. The state has had a sister state relationship with the Province of Heilongjiang since 1982 and Milwaukee forged a sister city relationship with the port city of Ningbo in 2006. Chinese companies are interested in investing in the Milwaukee Region through partnerships and business assoications with area firms. There is growing demand for environmental technologies, airport technologies and emergency equipment, mining equipment and water treatment products. The following links provide information on Milwaukee-area companies involved in these industry clusters. |
