MMAC Goal: A consumer-based system that provides
high-quality, cost-effective health care
Greater Milwaukee is known for the quality of its health care, and for the innovation of local firms developing new technologies for the health care industry.
Our agenda for health care focuses on what we can do now to reduce our costs in the face of federal or state proposed government solutions. More than 70% of all diseases have preventable causes. In 2010, Milwaukee was awarded the national “Well City USA" designation, based on the number of private businesses encouraging healthier lifestyles for their employees. The Well City Milwaukee initiative is a collaboration of the MMAC, the Greater Milwaukee Committee and the City of Milwaukee.
MMAC has also partnered with WPS’ Patient Choice and the Business Group on Heath Care, offering products that provide a consumer-driven approach to managing health care.
On the legislative front, MMAC continues efforts to exempt health savings accounts from state taxation, reduce government mandates, and reform the medical malpractice system. Lastly, we oppose efforts by state and federal officials to create a more costly government-run health care system.
2007-2009 RESULTS
- Increased reimbursement rate for hospitals providing Medicaid services to reduce cost-shifting to private payers.
- More than 50 Milwaukee employers enrolled in the Well City program; 34 have achieved the Well Workplace Award designation.
- Blocked “Healthy Wisconsin” state government proposed health care takeover.
