Infrastructure
MMAC Goal: Reliable and sustainable infrastructure that supports a growing regional economy
A reliable and sustainable infrastructure delivered at a competitive cost is a basic necessity for retaining and attracting capital investment in the region. Efficient transportation, dependable power, access to water, convenient air service, and cutting-edge telecommunication systems are all important components of our economic development platform. Our infrastructure and transportation agenda is geared to closing the gaps between immediate priorities and future needs.
Highways are, and will remain, our main arteries of commerce. The reconstruction of I-94 from Milwaukee to the Illinois state line and expansion of the Zoo Interchange are critical steps to meeting future demands.
Our region also requires modern and reliable public transit. The current transit system is both undercapitalized and poorly integrated into regional service. We must develop a system of public transportation with a dedicated funding source and a regional governance structure.
Air service is another key infrastructure asset — one we can improve upon by increasing the number of markets served non-stop and the frequency of these flights.
On the energy front, we must anticipate additional capacity needs and draw from diverse sources of power. We must also ensure that Wisconsin is not placed at a disadvantage through legislation that creates a cap and trade system on carbon emissions.
