International Business Network Strengthening Services under Region’s Largest Chamber

Milwaukee, WI… The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) today announced the merger of the Milwaukee World Trade Association (MWTA) with the MMAC, the region’s Chamber of Commerce.  This new service of the MMAC will be known as MMAC’s World Trade Association (WTA).

“The WTA has been affiliated with the MMAC for more than 30 years.  By officially bringing this service in-house, we can better deliver the educational and professional development programs that are critical to expanding the global reach of local firms,” said Tim Sheehy, MMAC president. “International business plays a key role in the region’s economy, and Wisconsin’s exports continue to grow at a rapid pace.”

Wisconsin exports increased by 4.7% from 2011 to 2012, ranking Wisconsin 18th among the states for total exports. In total, Wisconsin exporters shipped $23.1 billion worth of goods to 200 countries.

“By joining forces, MMAC and WTA are strengthening their support of export-import companies with expert-led seminars, peer exchange forums, and by building a network of connected individuals to maximize global opportunities,” said Kurt Prange, president of WTA’s Advisory Council.

MMAC/WTA member benefits include:

  • Increased growth opportunities for participants and their corporations through a broader network of peers, potential clients and vendors
  • Extension of international programming to all employees within member companies for one corporate rate
  • Greater exposure for international programming  through MMAC channels, networks, connections and sponsorships

In addition to monthly programs and networking events, MMAC’s WTA also sponsors the annual Wisconsin International Trade Conference  (, being held today, May 7, from 9 am – 4:30 pm at the Italian Community Center. This day-long event is bringing together more than 30 national and international speakers on a variety of topics including China and India, global logistics, e-commerce technology and compliance.

MMAC is the region’s largest chamber of commerce, serving 1,800 member businesses with 300,000 employees. The MMAC is a powerful source for developing business relationships, advocating for a pro-business environment and advancing economic development in the Milwaukee Region.
