About MMAC


The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) was founded in 1861 to promote Milwaukee and represent the interests of its business community. Today, MMAC is the leading business association in the state with nearly 2,000 dues-paying members of all sizes and industries. Collectively, those companies employ 300,000 in the greater Milwaukee area. The membership is supported by a staff of 35.

  • MMAC’s business hours are Monday thru Friday from
    ​8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • We offer a flexible and hybrid work style that each team member designs with their manager.
  • Training for most positions will necessitate more regular in office time for the first several months.
  • Team members have opportunity for annual outstanding performance bonus.
  • Offices located in the heartbeat of Milwaukee’s newest social hub – The 3rd Street Market.

Many of our positions will occasionally take you out of MMAC offices – to meet at client’s locations in metro Milwaukee.  You will need to utilize your own transportation, with mileage reimbursed.

All staff can expect to attend events outside of their own responsibility/division to support the organization efforts (roughly one per month; some are before or after hours).

Senior Director of Communications

We are seeking an exceptional communications professional who enjoys the challenge of developing strategy, leading messaging, directing editorial content, and working with internal teams and external audiences. This position reports to the MMAC Executive Vice President.
​
​The opportunity
We’re looking for a dynamic communications leader who can roll up their sleeves to work with our team of dedicated subject matter experts and leadership.

Major responsibilities include:
Develop and execute communication strategies to position the MMAC as the region’s leading business organization; advance the organization’s narrative around its core strategies of Talent, Growth, Equity and Livability; and serve as in-house expert communications resource.
  • Serve as media contact/spokesperson and drive proactive public relations for the MMAC, its programs and events
  • Manage messaging for membership and investor campaigns
  • Research and become fluent in issues of importance to the business community (examples include talent challenges, public policy, business attraction and expansion, racial equity in the workplace, education, etc.)
  • Develop topic ideas, book guests, produce and promote webinars and podcasts
  • Develop concepts and editorial content for the MMAC’s quarterly magazine, websites, marketing materials, member communications and presentations.
  • Create a social media strategy for MMAC’s brand and specific programs
  • Create content for e-newsletters, annual reports, and other publications
  • Manage the Entrepreneurial Storyteller position – guide work, edit articles
  • Serve as MMAC’s representative on various community communications groups (i.e. Republican National Convention, Move Forward MKE Sales Tax Coalition)
  • Assess the effectiveness of the MMAC’s communication channels and recommend improvements

Skills, Experience and Requirements
  • Superior written and presentation skills
  • Successful, demonstrated track record of working with senior leaders to help results
  • Ability to synthesize multiple perspectives and ideas to create audience-relevant strategies
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment managing a wide range of projects
  • Willingness to set strategy as well as execute
  • Media relations experience required
  • Successful social media campaign execution
  • Ability to form positive working relationships across departments and functions
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
  • 10+ years of communications experience
  • Basic website editing skills are a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CMS programs

Employees may work remotely 1-3 days per week depending on internal and external needs.
Salary Range: $80,000-$95,000
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $80,000.00 - $95,000 per year
