UWM launches Panther Edge Internship Program By: Allie Shane, Communications Specialist ![]() The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s (UWM) Center for Student Experience and Talent is seeking employer participation in the Panther Edge Internship Program. This work-based experience allows UWM students to take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it as interns for local businesses. “Inspiration stemmed from the desire to provide UWM students with experiential learning opportunities that will contribute to their career readiness during and after college,” said UWM’s Community Engagement and Experiential Learning Program Manager Jasmine Salton. The program offers numerous benefits for employer partners, including streamlined access to diverse talent, increased visibility within the community and priority for company-specific career events held on the UWM campus. Employers can also benefit from the program's “interview once, hire twice” model. Following a successful internship, employers may offer the student full-time employment upon college graduation.
“We hope to strengthen the relationship between employers and UWM students,” said Salton. The program is a relatively low lift on the employer’s end. Internship recruitment, application development, onboarding, payroll and other logistics are coordinated by UWM. Businesses can attend virtual information sessions held in April and May to receive more details about the program. Comments are closed.
