The future of the healthcare industry is looking especially bright, following the announcement of a collaboration between Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).

The two institutions revealed the launch of Student Pathways to Flourishing in the Health Professions, an innovative program that will provide MSOE students with the opportunity to explore opportunities in the health professions and become thought leaders in an evolving industry.

“Our two powerhouse, long-standing institutions are uniquely positioned to bring together emerging and innovative pathways to health professions available to undergraduates. This collaboration not only offers students options but also provides invaluable mentorship to guide them toward a future in health,” said John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, president and CEO of MCW. “Together, we are shaping the next generation of health leaders.”

Beginning in the fall of 2026, MSOE students will gain access to a new degree program, one that incorporates a variety of MCW’s graduate programs. Through mentorship, guidance and programming, MSOE students will explore several health professions including pharmacy, precision medicine, public health and genetic counseling. The two institutions hope to expand beyond these programs in the future.

Students will be able to apply their skills in business, technology, health sciences and artificial intelligence as they step into this new program, which aims to develop thought leaders in the health professions.

“We are thrilled to launch this program alongside the Medical College of Wisconsin, as it represents the next step in shaping the future generation of healthcare leaders,” said Dr. John Walz, president of MSOE. “Building on MSOE’s commitment to integrating applied A.I. education at the undergraduate level, students who pursue the Pathways to Flourishing in the Health Professions program will be prepared to leverage advanced technologies and lead in a rapidly changing landscape.”

According to MCW and MSOE, Student Pathways to Flourishing in the Health Professions is expected to have numerous positive impacts on students. These include:

  • Early exploration & immersive experiences: Students will begin their journey with hands-on exposure to various health professions, helping them identify the right fit for their unique strengths and passions.
  • Preparing healthcare leaders of the future: Students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to become thought leaders and change agents in health professions.
  • Seamless pathways across curricula: The program offers a smooth transition between undergraduate and graduate studies, ensuring a cohesive learning experience.
  • Near-peer mentors for support: Students will benefit from guidance and inspiration from students and recent graduates who have walked a similar path, helping them navigate their academic and professional journey.
