The objective of the MMAC | M7 Talent & Industry Partnership is to create connections between education and industry to inspire current students, their parents, guardians and other influencers to consider the broad spectrum of rewarding, family-sustaining career opportunities that exist with companies throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.
Program design process
Going into this process, our original concept was to create an advanced manufacturing teacher externship program -- a one-week, intensive summer program modeled after the KY FAME program in Kentucky, which rotates teachers through a series of manufacturing experiences to help them bring learning back to the classroom and become ambassadors for manufacturing career pathways.
The design team of CHROs from participating companies first met in February at WE Energies, a meeting that included members of the local education community and subject matter experts -- including Dr. Vince Bertram, the president of Project Lead the Way.
The feedback from that meeting was overwhelming: The project should be designed in a way that engages educators, but also reaches students and their parents, guardians and other influencers more quickly and more directly.
As one team member said: “This should not be a one-time deal. It’s more than a one-time teacher externship. It should be a longer-term relationship, with a broader set of experiences.” Based on that feedback, and additional inputs from a subsequent design session in March, the design team has identified the following key needs:
