SGO website established to demonstrate support for groundbreaking school funding opportunity

Every child deserves our investment to ensure a stronger, more vibrant community tomorrow. A new federal tax credit is making that possible by allowing individuals to redirect up to $1,700 to the school of their choice – instead of sending that money to Washington, D.C.
This opportunity opens the door to K-12 scholarships for all students, whether they attend public, charter or private schools.
For public school students, this could mean a child from a lower-income household participating in a band trip, a struggling reader receiving targeted tutoring to reach grade-level proficiency or access to enriching programs like a robotics club. For private school families, these scholarships can also help make tuition more accessible.
To unlock this potential, states must opt in under federal law. That’s why Pay It Forward Wisconsin is now accepting pledges to demonstrate the demand and impact this initiative could have across the state. While donations cannot be received until 2027, pledging today sends a powerful message to Wisconsin’s decision-makers: This is an opportunity we can’t afford to miss.
“We owe every child the chance to succeed, and this federal tax credit goes a long way in helping families realize that opportunity,” said MMAC President and CEO Dale Kooyenga. “These scholarships can make a meaningful difference. It’s a chance to strengthen our talent pipeline by supporting education in a way that’s personal, impactful and inclusive.”
If donors don’t designate a specific school, Pay It Forward Wisconsin will prioritize eligible students from low-income households attending a school near the donor with a proven track record of boosting reading and math proficiency.  The name of the game is improving student lives, outcomes and, therefore, the Wisconsin economy and social well-being.
