Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) President Dale Kooyenga provided the following thoughts after the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on statements made by Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers indicating he would not opt in to recently passed legislation allowing federal tax credits for choice education.

“While the proposed federal school choice tax credit has generated national attention, there has been no public discussion of this policy within Wisconsin to date. Gov. Evers’ decision to oppose the measure at this early stage strikes us as hasty and lacks the deliberation such a significant policy deserves. With implementation not slated until 2027, we have ample time to engage in thoughtful and inclusive dialogue. Over the next year and beyond, MMAC looks forward to collaborating with educators, families, policymakers and community leaders to ensure any policy decisions reflect the needs and values of our region.”
