Kooyenga discusses new federal education tax credit

Last week, the U.S. Treasury released its rules surrounding a dollar-for-dollar, non-refundable tax credit, allowing those with tax liability to donate to educational scholarship granting organizations (SGOs) funding public, private and charter schools. Individuals can take advantage of the tax credit up to $1,700, and those married filing jointly, up to $3,400. For Wisconsin students to reap the benefits of the tax credit, the Wisconsin governor must opt in.
MMAC President and CEO Dale Kooyenga sat down on the Oct. 5 segment of WTMJ’s Wisconsin’s Midday News, to give an overview of the credit, highlight the importance of Wisconsin opting in and share more on Pay It Forward Wisconsin, an SGO that could help channel those funds to schools with the greatest need once the state opts in.
