We’re growing our Rising Executive Roundtables! Due to strong interest, we’re adding new members and plan to launch a third group in August.

The Rising Executive Roundtables are designed for emerging leaders on the path to the C-suite. Roundtables are built for real conversations, not surface-level networking. Members meet monthly to work through challenges together in a confidential, non-competitive setting, creating space for honest discussion and shared experience. Members also connect twice a year with Milwaukee-area CEOs for mentorship conversations.

Current Rising Executive member Jamie Behnke from Zero Zone, Inc. shares her roundtable experience in the following Q&A:

Q: What were you initially looking for in a peer group, and how has the MMAC Roundtable Program met – or exceeded – those expectations?

A: In many professional roundtables, the focus is on the technical aspects of our roles and sharing ideas that can positively impact our organizations. What makes this peer group unique is that it focuses on personal leadership growth. The discussions challenge me to become a better leader, manager and future executive.

Our group serves as a trusted sounding board where we can openly discuss challenges, share experiences and learn from one another. We often reference the idea that “it’s lonely at the top,” and for emerging executives, having a network of peers navigating similar challenges is invaluable. The program has exceeded my expectations by providing both practical insights and a strong support system for leadership development.

Q: What is one valuable leadership lesson or insight you’ve gained from participation in the program?

A: One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that the journey to executive leadership rarely comes with a clear roadmap. Earlier in your career, managers and mentors often help guide your progression. As you move closer to executive roles, success becomes more about positioning yourself to be ready when opportunities arise.

Our discussions frequently center on what “being ready” truly means and how we can intentionally prepare ourselves for greater leadership responsibilities. The program has reinforced the importance of continuous growth, self-awareness and strategic career development.

Q: What are some of the most impactful topics your roundtable group has discussed?

A: Some of the most impactful conversations have focused on building and managing peer relationships. Technical expertise may help you earn a leadership role, but strong peer relationships are essential to achieving results and shaping organizational culture.

We’ve discussed how effective leaders take the time to understand the priorities, challenges and perspectives of their colleagues. While peer relationships aren’t always easy, developing trust and alignment across leadership teams is critical for driving successful outcomes and creating a positive workplace culture

Q: What has surprised you most about learning from executives and peers in different industries?

A: What has surprised me most is how different leadership journeys can be. During our CEO Meet & Greet event, we heard from leaders with vastly different career paths. Some always envisioned themselves becoming CEOs, while others never considered it until the opportunity presented itself.

The most impactful advice I took away was to focus on being ready for whatever your organization needs from you next. It’s a subtle but important shift in mindset. Rather than asking, “What role do I want next?” the better question is, “How can I prepare myself to create the greatest value for the organization when the next opportunity arises?”

Q: What would you tell an emerging leader who is considering joining the program?

A: I would tell any emerging leader that growth doesn’t happen in isolation. Surrounding yourself with peers who are navigating similar challenges and aspirations can significantly accelerate your development.

The MMAC Roundtable Program provides a unique environment where members can learn from one another, exchange honest feedback and offer support through the challenges of leadership. My roundtable group has challenged me to become a better leader, strengthened my confidence and helped me think more strategically about my future growth. It has been one of the most valuable leadership development experiences in my career.
