MMAC UNVEILS INTERACTIVE SCHOOL QUALITY MAP

New Tool Provides “One-Stop Shop” for Milwaukee County School Information

MILWAUKEE… The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) today unveiled an online school quality map for all Milwaukee County schools receiving public funds. The map provides an interactive, transparent tool for the community to identify and quantify success and areas in need of improvement in our region’s publicly funded schools.

“We have a significant opportunity to impact the flow of talent into our economy through our K-12 school system,” said MMAC President Tim Sheehy. “The MMAC Milwaukee School Quality Map gives parents and policy makers alike a common report card of which schools are succeeding and which are struggling in Milwaukee County. It also provides data to make informed decisions to expand, replicate or reform how we deliver K-12 education.”

The School Quality Map utilizes the most accurate and recent common data available from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to plot location and performance data on every school in Milwaukee County receiving taxpayer funds. Users can access direct links to school websites and the DPI’s detailed report cards for each school. The new tool can be searched and filtered by geography, performance, grade level, school sector, and demographics.

“If a parent wants to find a high-performing school for their child, he or she can type in their address and get a customized visual inventory of every school within a mile radius of their home and see how each of those schools is performing,” said Sheehy. “Similarly, if policy makers or philanthropists want to identify what is working in Milwaukee they can find that information quickly and easily on this map.”
The new map is presented side by side with MMAC’s Common Report Card for Milwaukee county schools, which ranks proficiency, ACT, and report card scores for every publicly funded school in Milwaukee County.

“Milwaukee’s K-12 landscape faces many challenges and far too many of our children are being left on the sidelines,” said Sheehy. “However, Milwaukee also boasts leaders in urban education who are taking the most challenged student populations and preparing these young men and women to successfully learn, lead and serve.”
